How does it work? Essential oils are highly concentrated extracts of plants containing a large variety of complex chemical compounds. When inhaled, the fragrances are sent to the limbic part of the brain, which is where our autonomic nervous system (responsible for our sexuality, likes & dislikes, moods & impulses, and our creativity is). The brain then releases its own natural relaxants, chemicals called neurotransmitters. They include: endorphins-natural pain killers, serotonin-calming and helps regulate appetite, and noradrenalin-which is stimulating.
Scents seem to influence our emotions and psychological functions. Studies have shown that the scents jasmine, orange and rose alter brainwaves into a calm pattern, while on the other hand basil & rosemary are stimulating. Aromatherapy is a safe and natural way to keep you healthy in body & mind. It is not, however, intended to replace a doctor's care
