Why Ask Why

Why do we use natural preservative? Because, lotion is a great place for bacteria and yeast to grow. If there were no preservatives added, lotion wouldn't have a very long or healthy shelf life. Natural preservatives extend and improve lotions life. The following is a list and brief explanation of some of the preservatives that BodEscentials uses.

Borax (sodium Borate)- Is a PH adjuster, emulsifying agent & cleaner. May irritate sensitive skin.

Lecithin powder- from soybeans is an emulsifier, thickening agent & mild preservative.

Citric acid- Anhydrous citric acid comes from the fermentation of crude fruit sugar and is mostly used to prevent color, texture and appearance loss in cosmetic products.

Zinc oxide- has the greatest UV absorption of all commercial pigments. It is the most effective natural sun block. It also has an "antiseptic" like function.

Potassium Sorbate-is the potassium salt of scorbic acid, a naturally occuring organic acid. Sorbic acid was first discovered in the Mountain Ash Tree. Potassium sorbate is a naturally occuring unsaturated fatty acid and is completely safe with regard to health.
